Celebration Lamp

The Essence of Colombia

During my senior year at Pratt in 2010, I enrolled in a capstone class that focused on exploring the intersection between culture and design. Without hesitation, I chose Colombia as my subject of exploration. This exercise turned out to be one of the most meaningful experiences of my design growth as it required me to delve deep into what it truly means to be Colombian. Despite the stereotypes, the Colombian people are all about celebrating life, and this sentiment is beautifully reflected in their folkloric carnival dresses, energetic music, colorful flora, and most importantly, their joyous spirit of the people. As a result, I created a pendant lamp called the "Celebration Lamp." This lamp was designed to bring joy and happiness to anyone who is sheltered under it, and to any space that is illuminated by it. At the time, I had to fabricate it in fiberglass to approximate the fluidity of the shape I had imagined. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to revisit this design with the help of AI, to give it a more polished look.
