Five Element

Complex compositions between Rectilinear and Curvilinear Elements

The Five Element composition combines the Rectilinear ad Curvilinear exercises to create groupings of elements with sub-hierarchies. One group should include three elements with corresponding Dominant, Subdominant, and Subordinate scale; the second should consist of dominant and subdominant elements. One of the groups must be more prevalent than the other. Students explore element relationships through this exercise, creating dynamic compositions and negative space.
