A Smart, Intuitive Bus Stop for NYC's Transit System
BusBeacon is a smart, interactive bus stop system designed for New York City’s MTA, aimed at transforming the everyday transit experience for commuters. By integrating a color-coded LED countdown ring and a responsive touchscreen interface, BusBeacon brings clarity, comfort, and real-time information to busy street corners and late-night waits.
Passengers can instantly gauge how soon their bus will arrive, thanks to a circular LED display divided into ten segments — each representing one minute. The interface also features an NFC tap-to-navigate function, allowing riders to plan routes, confirm locations, and access service alerts with ease.
This project reimagines public transportation through a human-centered, tech-forward lens — bridging the gap between infrastructure and digital convenience to make city navigation more intuitive, inclusive, and reliable.
